Green Technology and Innovation

The UK and China are recognized as world leaders in sustainable finance and innovative green and sustainable technology. There is a significant opportunity to bring green finance closer to the real economy through green and clean technology.

The UK’s strengths in innovation, technology, finance and position as a centre for global excellence are well recognised. It has a 300-year history as the world’s global marketplace, financing successive waves of innovation through deep and liquid capital markets. London’s commitment to international standards, deep green finance expertise, and proximity to world-leading universities ensure it is ideally placed to mobilise international capital and to promote emerging green technology clusters.

China is the single largest domestic green finance market and has strongly signalled its appetite to adopt and develop cutting edge green technology solutions to serve its environmental agenda and meet its commitments under the Paris Agreement. Moreover, Beijing is developing as an innovation hub and through Tongzhou District is creating a unique green finance and technology cluster.

London-Beijing Green Technology Investment Gateway

In recognition of the synergies between the two countries, the UK-China Green Finance Centre is exploring a new London-Beijing Green Technology Gateway.

The Gateway will provide a platform for cross-border investment in green technologies. A physical presence in Tongzhou in Beijing will provide a market entry point for UK and international green technology companies establishing in the Chinese market. A reciprocal arrangement in London will support Chinese green technology companies to reach the global market. The Gateway will be reinforced by investment funds in London and Beijing.
